A double-blind, placebo-controlled study in competitive sprint swimmers found that combining multi-strain probiotics (4.5×10¹¹ CFU) and omega-3 fatty acids (1000 mg/day: 500 mg EPA, 180 mg DHA) with Ultra-Short Race Pace Training (USRPT) led to synergistic improvements in performance. Over 8 weeks, the combined group showed the greatest gains reducing 50 m and 100 m freestyle times by 1.92% and 2.48%, respectively along with significant improvements in reaction time and sprint index, reflecting enhanced anaerobic power and neuromuscular responsiveness. These results suggest that pairing gut and inflammation-targeted supplementation with precision training may unlock greater performance outcomes than either strategy alone.
