A new study shows that a specific probiotic blend containing Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Pediococcus acidilactici strains can help repair gut barrier dysfunction in IBS patients. Researchers found that the probiotic reduced intestinal permeability caused by inflammatory mediators from IBS biopsies. It also boosted the expression of protective genes like β-actin and CYP1A1, possibly through the production of indole-3-lactic acid. The findings suggest potential for targeted probiotic therapy in managing IBS-related gut issues.
