According to the latest news report, Pharmako Biotechnologies has claimed that its PlexoZome is a true liposome, unlike any others available in the market. This news was published in the multimedia publishing brand – Nutritional Outlook.
PlexoZome, Pharmako’s fourth innovative delivery platform, was the much-talked-about liposomal technology at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA, in March this year. Pharmako Biotechnologies focuses on unique delivery systems that provide solutions for lipophilic ingredients. PlexoZome forms a part of the company’s compressible powered oil technology, its AquaCelle micellar delivery system, and its LipiSperse power-dispersion technology. These technologies make it easier to disperse and absorb ingredients and make them more bioavailable.
PlexoZome is both hydrophilic and lipophilic in nature, unlike the previous technologies that were mostly designed for lipophilic ingredients such as polyphenols, carotenoids, CoQ10, and omega-3s. Liposomes are nanostructured vesicles that are bi-layered, having an aqueous core and a fluid-filled ring to carry both hydrophilic and lipophilic substances. Validation of a true liposome is a 3-step process. To begin with, their size is examined to determine that they are nanoparticles and not just microparticles. Secondly, the structure should have “zeta potential,” meaning it should be negatively charged. Lastly, they should appear as a bi-layered structure under a transmission electron microscope or a cryochamber.
The aforementioned factors make PlexoZome a true liposome, unlike many so-called liposomes on the market that appear as a stringy structure under the transmission electron microscope.
