A groundbreaking study conducted by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität has demonstrated that combining omega-3 supplementation with a Mediterranean diet can significantly reduce acne symptoms and improve quality of life. The 16-week study involved 60 participants with acne who had not previously used prescription medication. Participants followed a Mediterranean diet and received 600 mg of DHA and 300 mg of EPA for the first 8 weeks, followed by 800 mg of DHA and 400 mg of EPA for the remaining 8 weeks. Researchers measured blood levels of EPA and DHA and monitored acne severity throughout the study. Initially, 98.3% of participants had insufficient levels of EPA/DHA. However, the combined dietary approach led to substantial improvements in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions. Additionally, participants, particularly those with acne papulopustulosa, reported a significant enhancement in their quality of life. This study highlights the potential of dietary strategies in effectively managing acne and promoting overall well-being.
