This study found that 3 g/day of taurine supplementation combined with a calorie-restricted weight-loss diet for 8 weeks improved several metabolic risk factors in obese women compared with the diet alone. Taurine supplementation significantly reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, leptin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), while increasing total adiponectin. However, it did not significantly affect body measurements, blood glucose-related markers, HDL cholesterol, or liver enzymes. Overall, taurine may provide additional benefits for lipid profile and metabolic health when combined with a weight-loss diet.
