A recent meta-analysis has highlighted the potential benefits of cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) supplementation on various cardiometabolic outcomes. Reviewing data from six studies involving 415 participants, researchers found significant reductions in body weight, body mass index, fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and HOMA-IR scores with cornelian cherry intake. Additionally, the analysis revealed an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Sensitivity analyses further indicated improvements in total plasma triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and insulin levels, though no significant effects were observed on waist circumference and liver parameters. These findings suggest that cornelian cherry supplementation could be a valuable strategy for managing cardiometabolic risk factors in high-risk individuals.
