Hair Growth Promoting Effects of Ageratum houstonianum Extract and Agerarin

The study on Ageratum houstonianum extract and its major bioactive compound agerarin for their ability to promote hair growth in human dermal papilla cells, which play a central role in regulating hair follicle development and cycling. The extract and agerarin significantly increased the expression of SCUBE3, a signaling molecule associated with hair follicle activation and regeneration. Their activity was linked to stimulation of the MAPK/AP-1 signaling axis, which enhanced transcriptional pathways involved in dermal papilla cell proliferation and hair growth signaling. The treatment also supported cellular activity related to follicular regeneration and growth-phase maintenance, improved communication between dermal papilla cells and surrounding follicular structures. Ageratum houstonianum extract and agerarin exhibit promising hair growth promoting activity through MAPK/AP-1-dependent upregulation of SCUBE3, supporting their potential application in cosmetic and therapeutic hair care formulations.
