Effects of N-Trans Caffeoyltyramine (NCT) and N-Trans Feruloyltyramine (NFT) Supplementation in Individuals with Diarrhea PredominantIrritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS-D): Results from a Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

This randomized, double‑blind, placebo‑controlled trial investigated the gut‑healing effects of the isolated hydroxycinnamic acid amide N‑trans caffeoyltyramine (NCT) in adults with diarrhea‑predominant IBS. Over three weeks, oral supplementation significantly improved intestinal barrier integrity, shown by a reduced Lactulose/Mannitol ratio (𝑝 = 0.048), and lowered systemic inflammation through decreased lipopolysaccharide‑binding protein levels (𝑝= 0.018) compared to placebo. These findings highlight NCT’s potential as a safe, targeted therapy for strengthening gut barrier function and alleviating IBS‑D–related inflammation.
