A recent study has demonstrated that even low doses of Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) can significantly boost the abundance of Bifidobacterium in the gut microbiota of healthy women. Conducted over six weeks with 88 participants, the randomized, double-blind study revealed that daily consumption of 1.3g and 2.0g GOS not only increased Bifidobacterium levels but also led to a significant shift in overall microbiota composition with the higher dosage. Interestingly, the study found that individuals with initially lower levels of Bifidobacterium were more likely to show a greater increase, suggesting that even minimal GOS supplementation can positively impact gut health in women.
