Mango leaf extract, rich in the polyphenol mangiferin, is widely touted for its potential brain health benefits, but not all studies agree on its effectiveness. In a recent gold-standard trial, healthy adults given a single 300 mg dose of mango leaf extract saw no improvements in cognitive performance or mood; in fact, they made more mistakes on challenging mental tasks compared to those who took a placebo.
These findings highlight that, despite a promising traditional reputation and some positive studies, mango leaf extract may not offer quick cognitive benefits for everyone. Researchers advise that more work is needed to understand when, how, and for whom this “natural nootropic” might make a real difference.
