A recent systematic review and meta-analysis delving into the effects of micronutrient supplementation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients has uncovered promising findings, suggesting that certain micronutrients, notably vitamin D, could significantly enhance lung function in this population. The comprehensive analysis, comprising 43 randomized controlled trials, revealed that vitamin D supplementation alone led to substantial improvements in key lung function parameters, including forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1%) and the FEV1 to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC%) ratio. Additionally, compound nutrient interventions showed significant enhancements in lung function measures. These findings underscore the potential of micronutrient supplementation, particularly vitamin D, as a complementary approach to traditional COPD treatments, offering hope for improved respiratory health and quality of life for COPD patients.
