A new 8-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study highlights the potential of Urolithin A (UA) supplementation in resistance-trained male athletes. Supplementing 1 g/day of UA led to significant improvements in muscle endurance metrics, including Maximum Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) and repetitions to failure (RTF), while also reducing inflammation markers like C-reactive protein (CRP). Though gains in 1RM for bench press and squat were observed, they did not reach statistical significance. UA further demonstrated its value by decreasing muscle protein breakdown, indicated by reduced 3-methylhistidine levels, and modulating oxidative stress. These findings position UA as a promising nutraceutical for enhancing performance, recovery, and overall muscle health, making it a potential game-changer in sports nutrition.
