A new meta-analysis highlights the benefits of inulin-type fructans (ITFs) derived from chicory root in supporting weight management and metabolic health. The review, encompassing 32 studies and over 1,100 participants, found that ITF supplementation significantly reduced body weight by an average of 0.97 kg, along with notable decreases in BMI, fat mass, and waist circumference. Additionally, interventions lasting more than eight weeks showed a reduction in body fat percentage. These effects were observed regardless of participants’ health status, with minimal influence from factors like dosage, duration, or the type of ITF used. Researchers concluded that chicory ITF supplementation could be a promising natural strategy for improving weight regulation and metabolic markers.
