The study determined that adding jamun (Syzygium cumini) to the diet significantly reduced the risk of estrogen-induced breast cancer in rats. Jamun delayed the appearance of tumors, lowered the number and size of tumors, and reduced hormone levels like estradiol and prolactin. It also decreased cell proliferation markers such as ER-α and Cyclin D1, while restoring healthy levels of key microRNAs (like miR‑182, miR‑375, miR‑127, and miR‑206) that were disrupted by estrogen. These protective effects are believed to be due to jamun’s rich content of anthocyanidins and ellagitannins, which help regulate hormone signaling and reduce cancer risk.
