Apparo Inc., a plant protein ingredient supplier based in Eden Prairie, MN, announced that its Solistein sunflower protein isolates have received Upcycled Certification from the Upcycled Food Association. The protein ingredients can be used in various applications, such as plant-based milks, ice cream, yogurt, beverages, bakery, cereal, and nutrition bars, among others.
Using its Total Crop Utilization technology, which is patent-pending, Apparo produces Solistein sunflower protein isolates, allowing the firm to process sunflower oil while extracting additional nutrients for human use. The company aims to increase the human nutritional utilization of the sunflower seed meal from oil production from nearly zero to more than 80%.
Apparo’s Solistein product line includes Solistein 001 Sunflower Native Protein Isolate and Solistein 002 Sunflower Protein Isolate, which are both more than 90% protein. Solistein 001 has a sweet flavor while Solistein 002 has a neutral flavor. The company believes that these options are the real game-changers that will elevate plant-based products to the next level in terms of flavor opportunities.
