A recent study has shown that fermented soybean (FSB) supplementation may be an effective new treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which impacts millions globally. Involving 110 participants over 12 weeks, the study required participants to take 1 gram of FSB daily, assessing symptoms with the Reflux Disease Questionnaire (RDQ) and measuring inflammatory markers such as IL-4, IL-6, and IL-8. The results indicated significant reductions in heartburn and regurgitation symptoms, alongside decreased inflammatory markers, with improvements in participants’ quality of life as measured by the Quality of Life in Reflux and Dyspepsia (QOLRAD) questionnaire. Researchers noted marked enhancements in vitality, emotional distress, and physical/social functioning, suggesting that FSB could serve as a beneficial adjuvant approach to GERD management, offering hope for those seeking relief from this chronic condition.
