The study evaluated the preventive efficacy of Pycnogenol® (French maritime pine bark extract) in otherwise healthy subjects with restless legs syndrome (RLS). The study compared two groups: one receiving standard management (SM) and another receiving SM plus 150 mg/day of Pycnogenol® for 4 weeks. The results showed that Pycnogenol® supplementation significantly improved limb sensations, normalized resting flux, improved venoarteriolar response, reduced the need for pain management, and decreased oxidative stress and minimal edema. The study concluded that Pycnogenol® prevents or relieves RLS symptoms and positively affects the venoarteriolar response, suggesting its potential role in managing this syndrome and related subclinical muscular and neurological alterations.
