The recent article, explores the potential of Hibiscus sabdariffa (commonly known as hibiscus) in oncology. This review highlights the bioactive compounds present in hibiscus such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, and organic acids – and their roles in cancer prevention and therapy. These compounds exhibit antioxidant properties, modulate cell signaling pathways, and induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Particular emphasis is placed on hibiscus’s efficacy against breast cancer, including its potential to inhibit tumor growth and prevent metastasis. The review also references traditional uses of hibiscus in various cultures and underscores the need for further clinical research to validate its therapeutic applications in modern medicine.
