This Phase II, Bayesian-optimized randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate whether a 6-month oral taurine supplementation program (3 g/day) improves metabolic health and blood glucose control among healthcare workers. The evidence connecting taurine deficiency to age-related metabolic diseases, the study will randomize up to 80 participants to receive either taurine or a placebo, stratifying them by age and diabetes status. Researchers will track the primary outcome of reductions in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) alongside secondary metrics like lipid levels, blood pressure, weight, and biological age indicators (PhenoAge). Utilizing interim analysis at 20, 40, and 60 participants to check for early superiority or futility, the trial’s findings will ultimately determine if a larger Phase III trial is warranted to establish taurine’s therapeutic role in metabolic health.
