In a new double-blind trial, a 50 mg dose of a plant-based supplement (“PB-Blend”) showed powerful, multi-targeted antioxidant action in individuals recovering from moderate COVID-19 outshining 1000 mg of Vitamin C. The supplement blend included extracts derived from blueberry, broccoli, cherry, green coffee bean, green tea, kale and turmeric, combined in proprietary ratios and standardized to a minimum of 60% total polyphenols, 30% catechins and 3% curcuminoids.
Within 3 hours of supplementation, PB-Blend significantly reduced oxidative stress markers: mitochondrial ROS (–56%), iNOS (–60%), and NOX2 (–49%), while also boosting bioavailable nitric oxide (NOHb) by 33%. In contrast, Vitamin C only lowered NOX2-related ROS (–45%) and did not impact NO levels. These findings suggest PB-Blend may offer broader immune-modulating benefits than Vitamin C, particularly during peak respiratory virus seasons.
