A new study suggests that taking 1 gram of omega-3 daily, especially when combined with vitamin D (2,000 IU) and regular exercise, may slow biological aging.
The research, based on data from the DOHEALTH trial involving 777 Swiss older adults, analyzed the effects of these interventions on DNA methylation (DNAm) clocks, a key marker of biological age. Results showed that omega-3 had a notable impact on three out of four DNAm measures, indicating a strong epigenetic response. Previous studies have linked omega-3 to reduced infection rates (by 13%) and fewer falls (by 10%). When combined with vitamin D and exercise, the interventions significantly lowered prefrailty risk by 39% and invasive cancer incidence by 61% over three years.
