In a pilot study involving overweight adults, a novel nutraceutical formulation containing prebiotics, minerals, and silymarin was found to significantly improve gut microbiota composition and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria like Blautia. Over 180 days, the supplementation not only enhanced microbial diversity but also improved mood, reduced inflammation (particularly interleukin-8 levels), and enhanced sleep quality. Positive changes in total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, and certain cytokines further supported the overall improvement in participants’ mental and physical well-being, demonstrating the formulation’s potential as a holistic approach to health.
