A new 8-week randomized study tested synbiotic herbal blend and a myoinositol-based herbal supplement (MBHS) in 36 participants aged 12 to 45 with non-cystic acne. Both treatments significantly reduced acne lesions by week 4, with continued improvement at week 8 (p < 0.0001). Gut microbiome analysis revealed a threefold increase in several beneficial bacteria, including Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Prevotella copri, across both groups. Additionally, stool and plasma levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) rose in both cohorts, indicating enhanced gut health. Notably, the MBHS group also showed significant hormonal improvements, with reductions in 17-OHP and androstenedione levels. The findings suggest that targeting gut health and hormonal balance through synbiotics and herbal supplements may offer an effective complementary approach for managing acne.
