A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study has found that daily supplementation with hawthorn fruit (900 mg/day) for six months significantly improved facial skin hydration in adults aged 25 to 75. The effect was particularly pronounced in individuals with specific TERT gene variants. Carriers of the CC genotype at rs7705526 showed the greatest hydration improvement, while those with the AA genotype at rs2853669 experienced reduced wrinkle scores unlike the placebo group, which saw increased wrinkles. Although overall telomere length did not differ between groups, hydration was positively correlated with leukocyte telomere length. These findings suggest that hawthorn fruit may offer anti-aging skin benefits, particularly in individuals with favorable genetic profiles.
