Evaluation of Crithmum maritimum Extract as a Natural Anti Ageing Ingredient

The study evaluated Crithmum maritimum (sea fennel) extract for its potential as a natural anti-aging skincare ingredient by assessing its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-protective activities. Phytochemical analysis identified the extract as being rich in chlorogenic acid, caffeoylquinic acid derivatives, flavonoids, and other polyphenols, which contribute to its biological effects. The extract demonstrated strong antioxidant activity by effectively scavenging free radicals and protecting skin cells from oxidative stress. It also significantly reduced the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, helping to limit inflammation associated with skin aging. Additionally, the extract protected dermal fibroblasts from oxidative damage, supported cell viability, and preserved extracellular matrix integrity, thereby contributing to the maintenance of skin structure and function. These combined activities indicate that Crithmum maritimum extract can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation induced skin aging, highlighting its potential as a natural active ingredient for anti aging cosmetic formulations.
