Collagen Peptide Supplementation in Supportive Periodontal Therapy

This randomized controlled trial evaluated the effects of a specific collagen peptide supplement on periodontal inflammation in patients undergoing supportive periodontal aftercare. Participants receiving collagen peptides showed significant improvements in periodontal health parameters, including reductions in bleeding on probing and inflammatory burden, compared with the control group. The beneficial effects are associated with the ability of collagen-derived peptides and amino acids such as glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline to support extracellular matrix turnover, connective tissue repair, and modulation of inflammatory responses within periodontal tissues. By enhancing collagen synthesis and supporting gingival tissue integrity, the supplementation helped improve tissue stability and healing in the oral environment. Overall, the specific collagen peptide supplementation may serve as a beneficial adjunctive nutritional strategy for reducing periodontal inflammation and supporting periodontal tissue regeneration in aftercare patients.
