Emerging evidence suggests that L-methylfolate can augment antidepressant response in major depressive disorder. This prospective, naturalistic study assessed changes in depression severity and treatment satisfaction after patients were prescribed L-methylfolate as a medical food, either alongside existing antidepressants or alone.
Over three months, participants reported symptoms, functioning, and medication experiences using standardized measures. Patients described meaningful reductions in depressive symptoms and functional impairment across work, home, and social life, with many achieving substantial improvement or remission. Satisfaction with L-methylfolate was notably higher than with prior medications.
Overall, in routine clinical practice, L-methylfolate use is associated with better mood outcomes, improved daily functioning, and greater treatment satisfaction in people managing depression.
