No Quick Boost : Single-Dose Choline Doesn’t Improve Memory

Three double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trials tested a single 2.0–2.5 g dose of choline bitartrate in healthy young adults. Tasks-visuospatial, verbal working memory, and declarative picture memorization were performed ~60 minutes after dosing (total N across studies = 94). Choline produced no significant memory benefits; Bayesian analyses strongly supported the null. Results suggest acute choline supplementation does not enhance memory in healthy adults and contrast with animal findings that may depend on developmental or long-term dosing
