Effects of a bioactive desensitizing material on in-office bleaching–induced tooth sensitivity: A randomized double-blind controlled trial

This clinical trial tested whether applying a bioactive glass desensitizer before in‑office bleaching with 40% hydrogen peroxide could reduce tooth sensitivity and affect whitening results. Fifty‑one participants were divided into three groups (bioactive desensitizer, fluoride gel, placebo) and underwent two bleaching sessions. The study found no difference in the overall risk of sensitivity among groups, but the bioactive desensitizer significantly reduced sensitivity intensity between 1 and 48 hours after bleaching. Importantly, all groups achieved similar and effective whitening, showing that the desensitizer eased post‑bleaching discomfort without compromising bleaching outcomes.
