A crossover trial in 21 college students found that short-term supplementation with paprika xanthophylls (PXs) improved exercise efficiency and reduced heart rate during both incremental and constant load tests. While no significant between-group differences were seen in cognition overall, PX intake enhanced performance in the Trail Making Test-B and Stroop interference tasks. These findings suggest PXs may enhance oxygen delivery efficiency potentially via red blood cell deformability, supporting endurance performance and possibly benefiting cognitive function.
