A new clinical study suggests that pistachios may hold the key to a more natural night’s rest. Researchers have developed Prosomnial™, a melatonin supplement sourced from pistachios, and found it performs on par with synthetic melatonin in both absorption and sleep benefits. In a randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, cross-over pilot trial, 26 healthy adults aged around 31 years with mild sleep difficulties were given both Prosomnial™ and synthetic melatonin, separated by a two-week washout period. Pharmacokinetic testing showed comparable absorption profiles between the two formulations, including similar peak concentration (Cmax), time to peak (Tmax), and overall exposure (AUC₀- ₂h). Across the 7-day supplementation periods, both interventions improved self-reported sleep measures. Participants taking Prosomnial™ experienced shorter sleep latency, longer total sleep time, better sleep quality, and greater morning restfulness without any adverse events. The findings position Prosomnial™ as a viable natural alternative to synthetic melatonin.
