A 12-week study of 161 men found that pea protein builds muscle just as effectively as whey protein. Both outperformed placebo, and neither pulled ahead of the other overall. The biggest win for pea protein came among beginners, where it delivered noticeably greater muscle gains than placebo. Bottom line: pea protein is a legitimate, science-backed alternative to whey especially for those just starting out.
