This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial investigated the effects of a combined anthocyanin (riceberry rice) and prebiotic soluble fiber (rice bran, Jerusalem artichoke) supplement in 60 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Participants received either the supplement (2.8 g/day) or maltodextrin placebo for 60 days. Compared with placebo, the supplement group showed significant improvements in fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and LDL cholesterol, along with enhanced glomerular filtration rate, without adverse effects. No significant changes were seen in oxidative stress, inflammation, or cardiorespiratory fitness. Findings support anthocyanin-fiber supplementation as a safe adjunct therapy for improving glycemic and lipid outcomes in T2DM.
