A recent study explores how calanus oil supplementation, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, plant sterols, and astaxanthin impacts glucose regulation in obese adults with insulin resistance. In a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 266 participants, researchers tested different doses of calanus oil (2 g/day and 4 g/day), both with and without lifestyle intervention. The study found that combining 2 g/day calanus oil with lifestyle changes significantly improved insulin sensitivity, as measured by HOMA-IR. Additionally, a higher dose (4 g/day) of calanus oil alone showed positive effects in participants with mild insulin resistance. These findings suggest that calanus oil, particularly when paired with lifestyle interventions, may be a promising natural approach for improving glucose homeostasis in obese individuals.
